Do you race for fun, health or competition? Why?

All three – but the competition is great, especially in ultras because of the diverse people it attracts – then seeing us as “the same” by the end of the event.

What personal goals have you reached already?

Somehow, over the years I have run enough to call myself a “runner.” My goal going forward (in response to the next question) is to be able to continue to earn that claim.

What personal goals do you have for the future?

What was your first race?

 Richmond Marathon

How long have you been interested in triathlon/running/fitness?

20 years

Do you enjoy training or competing most?

Training

What is your favorite part of training?

The sense of accomplishment you earn from completing a training cycle before a “big race”.

What drives you to compete?

That has changed with time – now, as an older Dad – my health is even more important to me than ever – plus my wife, Ashley and I want to be a good role models for Stella – our 5 year old daughter.

Why did you choose Team Malone?

I have known Katie for a number of years – she and my wife competed (and still do) in tri’s – she has always had the reputation as a successful, competitive coach, she understands and cares about her athletes – plus the demands of being a parent.

What race or races are on your bucket list?

Luckily I have my Green Number from Comrades (10 finishes) – it would be such an honor to line up and finish wearing that number.
